The mdw invites its alumni:ae on December 9, 2024 to the work introduction with reception and subsequent concert of the Webern Symphony Orchestra at the Musikverein.

Arnold Schönberg's symphonic poem "Pelleas and Melisande" tells of soul mates and deep love, of jealousy and death. The young composer's first major orchestral work is Richard Wagner's leitmotifs as well as the variant technique of his teacher Alexander Zemlinsky and the orchestration of Richard Strauss. However, Schönberg also explores his sense of form and space in a highly independent fuses nature and soul in post-romantic sound poetry. In the genesis, content and aspects of the work premiered at the Musikverein in 1905.

Therese Muxeneder has been head of the collection at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna since 1998. Research activities on the Viennese School and Schönberg. Author "Arnold Schönberg & Karl Kraus" (2024).

Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 2 in D major op. 36

Arnold Schönberg: Pelleas and Melisande. Symphonic poem op. 5

 

Axel Kober has been chief conductor of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra since 2019, General Music Director since 2019. Recurring guest conductorships have taken him to the Bayreuth Festival and the Vienna State Opera, among others, where he has conducted a diverse repertoire since his debut in 2016.
